FAQ

Do I need to be physically fit, have a lot of stamina or flexibility to participate?

Not at all. Our goal isn’t about improving fitness, but to help you feel at home in your own body, just like you would in a comfy t-shirt! Even though movement is involved, we respect the limits and choices everyone makes. Our sessions are paced and adjusted to suit all abilities. As long as you can inhale and exhale.. you are ready to participate!

Are there any age requirements?

We have dedicated programmes for children, teenagers and the elderly. Unless these are indicated, our programmes are open to the rest of us, regardless of age.

What do I wear?

Any clothing that you find comfortable and doesn't restrict movement. Ideally, we also recommend going barefoot as this allows fuller contact with the ground.

What changes can I expect from a session?

At the minimum, we hope you'll leave a session feeling lighter, more energised, and at one with yourself. You'll also take away new movement vocabulary and techniques to help with your daily emotions and functioning.

Does Dance Movement Therapy involve dance? What if I can’t dance?

We prefer to think of dance as the expression of one’s self in movement. We simply bring what’s inside of us into an authentic moving experience. As such, there can be no right or wrong, nothing too simple or too strange. Even a single breath can be dance. All it takes is an open heart. Let us reimagine and recreate the meaning of dance together.

What does physical connection with others mean? Is there touch involved?

Only if all parties are comfortable with it. Respectful touch can be a way of establishing connection, but contact can also be made invisibly through the ways we move with each other and share a space. That said, we also set aside time for individual work, and respect the need for personal space in sessions.
